Focus Areas

Our work is organised into four focus areas. They are designed to reinforce each other, because lasting protection needs more than one kind of action.

Awareness without economic opportunity rarely changes decisions. Opportunity without protection leaves the most vulnerable behind. Protection without strong institutions cannot last. And none of it can be improved without evidence and good partnerships. For this reason we work across all four areas, often within the same programme.

Anti-Smuggling, Migration and Protection

  • Anti-Smuggling Prevention and Awareness
  • Human Trafficking Prevention and Protection
  • Safe Migration and Migration Governance
  • Protection of Vulnerable Migrants and At-Risk Communities
  • Cross-Border Cooperation and Regional Migration Initiatives

This is the core of our work. We help prevent migrant smuggling and human trafficking before they happen, protect people who are at risk or who have been harmed, and promote migration that is safe, informed and regular.

We work with communities, local authorities and partners to raise awareness, strengthen referral and protection pathways, and improve the way migration is managed. We also support cross-border cooperation, because smuggling and trafficking networks do not stop at borders, and neither can the response.

Social and Community Development

  • Community Development and Participatory Approaches
  • Youth Empowerment, Skills Development and Employment
  • Poverty Reduction and Economic Empowerment
  • Child Protection and Safeguarding
  • Human Rights and Community-Based Protection
  • Livelihood Development and Economic Resilience

Lasting prevention starts with opportunity and strong communities. In this area we support participatory community development, youth skills and employment, poverty reduction and economic resilience, so that young people and families have safe and dignified alternatives at home.

We also work on child protection and safeguarding, and on human rights and community-based protection, helping communities to look after their most vulnerable members. Communities are our partners: they set priorities, take part in decisions and own the results.

Capacity Building and Institutional Development

  • Institutional Capacity Building and Organisational Development
  • Professional Training and Trainer Development
  • Leadership Development and Strategic Planning
  • Governance, Policy Development and Institutional Strengthening

Good programmes need strong institutions. We help government bodies, civil society organisations and community structures to strengthen their systems, skills and leadership.

Our support includes organisational development, professional training and trainer development, leadership and strategic planning, and governance and policy development. We focus on practical, tailor-made support, and on leaving behind capacity that lasts.

Research, Projects and Partnerships

  • Research, Policy Analysis and Evidence-Based Programming
  • Project Design, Management and Implementation
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)
  • Partnership Development, Stakeholder Coordination and Resource Mobilisation

Evidence and partnership make programmes better. We carry out research and policy analysis, and we design, manage and implement projects from start to finish.

We build monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) systems that give donors and communities a clear picture of progress, and we support partnership development, stakeholder coordination and resource mobilisation so that effective work can grow.
